Flinders Street protected bicycle lane feasibility study

Description of work conducted

Feasibility study and option development for protected bicycle lanes along the entire length of Flinders Street.

Project outcomes

Trafficworks undertook a comprehensive study for the City of Melbourne to investigate a wide range of options to implement protected bicycle lanes along the full length of Flinders Street. This includes options to provide one direction of bicycle lane on each side of the road, and an option to provide a two-way bicycle lane on the southern side of the road. Options for full westbound closure to traffic along Flinders Street outside Flinders Street station was also investigated, and the impacts of these options to the flow of various modes of transport were modelled in detail. The opportunities for additional public open space and the removal of parking, delays to trams and pedestrians were also quantified for each option.
